Today I wanted to answer a question I get a lot from prospective clients. Many clients contact me knowing which type, many aren’t sure, and many need to see examples before making a decision.
What is the difference?
As you can see above, lifestyle sessions are at a client’s home, whereas studio sessions are in my studio, to put it simply.
Why choose one over the other?
With at-home (aka lifestyle) sessions, I travel to you. Some parents prefer to avoid taking baby out of the house for a period of time after birth. Studio sessions are here in my studio, so unlike at home sessions, there is no tidying up to do. When I come to a client’s home I ask that most baby and parent knick knacks (water bottles, pumps, tissues) and detritus of early parenthood get put away. You want to remember you sweet baby’s face, not how many protein bar wrappers you went through – though these are essential!
Studio sessions must be scheduled within the first three weeks (4-20 days old, adjusted if the baby arrives before 28 weeks) of the baby’s life, when they are the most squishy, asleep and accustomed to being curled up in those sweet poses. At home sessions, as they are less about posing the baby and more about the baby’s family, have more flexibility in timing. I can attempt some posing of the baby, to a limited extent. However I do not bring props to at home sessions, nor do I bring the full complement of my fabrics, bonnets and swaddles.
How do I know which type of session is right for me?
Come to my studio for timeless images of your baby in a controlled and safe environment, as well as beautiful props that show off their sweet features. My mission is to make you comfortable, so if you’d rather keep baby at home, and want some images of the baby in the nursery, or family portraits with a pet, then at home is right for you! I love both types of sessions, so it’s all about what you’re going for.
If you want even more examples of the different types, I’ve listed some blog posts below for you!
