When you’ve been a newborn photographer as long as I have, you see all ages and types of big siblings. Some need no encouragement to engage with their new family member – they’ve been waiting months to have this living doll (to them). For others, this has been an enormous shift in their life and they are having trouble with the upheaval this person represents. Most often, their opinion lands somewhere in between. I have my ways of encouragement for even the most reluctant in the sibling set, particularly those in the 18months to 3 year old range. That said, once we get to 5 or 6, the age of reason starts to kick in and me and the sibling totally have the best time.
Today’s big brother is 4.5 years old, but I would have told you he was 8. This amazing little boy made my job look easy and certainly eased the stress on his mom. He smiled whenever asked and in the most relaxing smile you’d think was as natural as can be. Safe to say, if it wasn’t already obvious, that he impressed me. I’ve had 6 year olds in the studio who needed some treats to participate! His mom would tell me how excited he was for a little sister. I can tell he will be such a doting big brother. As the eldest sister, I would have loved a fun big brother! I’ll settle for being the bossy big sister, which comes in handy for my clients who want plenty of posing direction.
Another way I strive to serve my clients is through styling. Mom here is wearing a dress from the client closet. She said she liked green, so that was the section of my closet we stuck to. Dad brought his own shirt and big brother’s shirt is one of mine. I have clothes for everyone from 0 to 10. It’s a collection that continues to grow to better serve all of my clients.
Contact me today – the best time to book your newborn photographer, whether you want an in home newborn session or an in studio session, is when you are still expecting. These little babies change really fast! It is a small window to capture how little they are in those first months. I also do lifestyle newborn sessions at home with lots of family cuddles – check out a few of those sessions here.
