These maternity portraits were very special (I mean, all my mamas and babies are special) – this is my very first mom friend when I had my first son. I met her through a breastfeeding support group, when we both had no idea what we were doing and were just trying to survive new motherhood. She was very open and lovely and if she hadn’t been, I wouldn’t have had the courage to get her number and give her mine, as making friends doesn’t come 100% naturally to me. Anyways, her first, a son, is only three days older than mine, so it’s been a joy to see them grow together and happily, our second pregnancies overlapped for a while. So, we got to share that too! As you can tell by now, this is why this maternity and family session was really important for me to get right, and I couldn’t wait to get home and edit it. They’re a lovely family I’m excited to see grow again by another member, and I’m happy I have a solid mom friend like this one to go through this crazy parenting thing with.
Isn’t this mama gorgeous? Her son was a typical toddler and wanted nothing to do with photos, but his parents are absolute pros at getting him to smile (or smiling when he’s shouting so that it looks like he’s happy). He loves to play sports with his dad so many of the family portraits from the session were <smiling parents> with <blurry moving toddler>. It was one of those gorgeous April days that are unseasonably warm…all day until sunset when our shoot happened and then the wind kicked up and the temperature dropped. My family was totally game though, and stuck it out until we got all of their shots, and I’m so glad they did.
