Holiday card season can swiftly pass busy parents by, and often you can’t even catch up for New Year’s greeting cards. Allow me to suggest Valentine’s Day photo cards! I am, of course, very biased for a few reasons. It is one of my favorite (possibly my most favorite) holidays. I love pink, red, and purple. I love a heart shape. What’s better than celebrating love? Now, some argue that Valentine’s Day is for romantic love, and therefore why send a card? To that I say: well then memories of classroom valentines would disappear and I am not here for that. Classroom valentines are a rite of passage.
Beyond your perception of the holiday, who doesn’t want to hear from friends and family, and get a refreshing change to the Christmas/Hannukah/Holiday cards from the end of the previous year? I certainly love it! I’ve done Valentine’s Day shoots before, and they are so fun. This is the first year I’ve done one in my new studio. The boys, who are 9, 7 and 3, were promised these delicious and photogenic Crush Strawberry sodas in return for some brotherly love.
I’ll spare you the outtakes, as there were plenty. Photographer’s children are notoriously bad for their parents. Thank goodness my “encouragement” was a part of the photoshoot setup and props. I have so many plans in the coming years, as these boys grow. Hopefully they will stay patient with me so I can show all my clients what fun family Valentine’s Day photos I can create for them too.
