Today’s cake smash is meant to showcase how a simple, clean cake smash can be classic and beautiful without all the accompanying props and accoutrements. It can be this way to showcase your baby and their family, instead of a theme. Baby C’s family showed up in street clothes and with a little help from my client closet, transformed. As one year olds are often in the thick of stranger danger, we start with family images first. Mamas get a rare picture of themselves in pretty clothes and their littles. I’m a mom too, and naturally the documenter in our family. I get it that other moms might also be the ones usually holding the camera. Above all it’s my goal to ensure that you leave with beautiful images of everyone in your family.
Mom picked out a few dress options at our consultation and I pulled matching items for everyone else to try on on the day of the session. She went with a beautiful Free People dress with lovely eyelet detail. Of course we did the actual cake smash too, just a girl and her cake. It’s a lovely way to celebrate what is always a challenging first year. Even the easiest babies pose a challenge as parents adjust to life with a new human. Capping the year off with something sweet and a forever memory certainly honors all of it.The birthday girl was patient enough to allow for 4 outfit changes: 1 for the family portraits, 2 for the solo portraits and another for the actual smash. Both C and her big brother did so well for just meeting me on that day, and mama loved the images so much that she chose an album for her artwork.
