This lovely family found me via a local preschool that several of my son’s friends attend, Chapel School. For some reason I only see families with teenagers occasionally throughout the year, and I hope that it only increases with frequency! It’s so fun capturing teens – these days they are really good at posing and usually don’t run off at the drop of a hat like the toddlers do. (Usually). They’re often quite fun to chat with and take my gentle ribbing in stride, and that usually helps loosen them up a bit.
It also helps that the parents in the family are a straight up delight. Fun, easygoing and didn’t take themselves too seriously. As a photographer, I’m often working with the comfort level of parents who may not have taken portraits together, without their children, since their wedding. Let me just say now that these two were naturals. To be fair, most of us don’t cuddle and look lovingly at each other with an audience, saving these moments for randomly at home, alone with each other. So to be asked to do so for a stranger, with other strangers walking by can feel weird. It takes real comfort and self assuredness to do so for me!
These folks booked their session last August – which is when I try to encourage families to book for their holiday card portraits. I know that most aren’t thinking of it, which is understandable. It’s perfect though – sunset is later, so you don’t have to hold it obscenely early, the weather is usually shiver-proof, and you are done before the start of school. That last element really knocks you back until October, which is when I am usually booked up.
Just a little advice! If you’re thinking of a family portrait session then contact me now to chat what you’re thinking.
