Every now and then I get to shoot an extended family – and this one was three generations. I just thought that was so neat, and something I think more folks should do – both have more family reunions if folks live far from each other and get a photographer to capture them! I know, I know, I’m totally biased on that last part. It gives a little different, more relaxed feel. When you are not in the midst of the holidays, you can avoid (hopefully) stressful travel, possible weather disruptions, the pressure to enjoy the holiday spirit, and catch up while everyone has a day or two off before rushing back home. Family reunions can happen anytime, and in a time that there’s less going on.
As such, I was asked to photograph this fun family on the dual occasions of the family reuniting, and the matriarch’s 70th birthday. Bonus for me was amazing chemistry and clear fondness between the matriarch and her partner. Of course, I also couldn’t get away without shooting some really fun photos of the grand-kids interacting with each other and their grandmother. We really lucked out with the weather, which was lovely only as long as the photo shoot lasted – phew!
