Sometimes I’ll do a mini session for a baby in my Tuckahoe photography studio, instead of a full session. This little redhead came in after his mama visited earlier this year for a maternity model session. He’s a third baby, and was as chill as you’d expect a third baby to be. He also gave me the best smiles! He was kind enough to smile while I actually had the camera ready. I can’t tell you how many babies smile when I’m adjusting my studio light, or changing their bonnet, etc. Since his big sister is only in school for half days, she hung out with us as well. She was a fun, sweet little gal who was an absolute angel while I photographed her brother.
I like the contrast of his red hair and fair skin with the gray textiles that I have in my studio. With newborn photography you have to have a variety of textures, colors and fabrics to accommodate all types of hair and skin color, so it makes for a fun few minutes matching up my stash with the baby I am shooting. It’s like being a baby stylist! I kid, mostly. It is so fun though, picking out colors, props and bonnets for these little humans. I love both in-home and studio sessions, and picking out fabrics is one of my favorite things about the latter.
This session was a shorter one, netting 10-15 images, and in my full sized sessions I usually capture about 25. It’s something to consider if you’re thinking about a newborn session for your own baby, but don’t want to commit to a full 3 hour session.
