“I’m not prepared for a photoshoot. Can we reschedule?” One mama who had a lot going on messaged me this and when I talked to her, it turned out that she had no idea what everyone should wear and didn’t have the time to figure it all out. Enter…me! I pulled pieces from my client closet, down to hair bows, and sent links to her of suggested shoes. She picked up the clothes and there was something to help her feel not only prepared, but gorgeous and calm for her shoot. That’s my goal - it’s not just about the photos. It’s a memory, where you play with your children dressed in the best clothes and looking your best, immortalizing these moments forever. You know your hand will not always want to be held and you won’t he able to pick these kids up forever and it’s worth remembering when those things were possible. These shots were taken in what I think is a particularly photogenic area of my own town of #tuckahoe. The village has some cute nooks, making bringing local families somewhere other than a park really fun.

A sampling of some favorites from this year’s Santa Experience. A good time was had by all I’d say, based on these smiles! Moms and dads could relax knowing we’ve got this, and then have beautiful memories of a special holiday season for them. Merry Christmas to all, only 15 days to go!

If for one reason or another you do not want to be in photos with your newborn, while the memory maker in me dies a little inside, I get it. You’re exhausted from lack of sleep, you might still be recovering from birth and your body doesn’t feel like yours. When this happens, no problem, we’ll do a baby only session, like this one. Little L was a champ at 39 days old, and we took our sleep windows very seriously.

If everyone’s still in a good mood, there’s a beautiful park right near the studio that we can finish the session in. The sun sets right into the Palisades and golden hour really lives up to its name in those moments. It's a wrap on Santa sessions! Everyone should have gotten their galleries, hopefully in time for some Black Friday sale fun. It was a wonderful event with @sarahsellsforyou as usual, and just a lovely way to mark the start of the season with clients I often only see once a year.

Baby E, who I feel like was getting his newborn po

Baby E, who I feel like was getting his newborn portraits taken at home yesterday, is 1! What a joy to watch him tear and I mean tear into his cake. His parents promised he was an eater and they were 100% right. An absolute delight.

Live on the blog today: more images from this gal's session. If you're like me, before you had children you had never heard of a cake smash. The idea might have seemed a little wild - you just watch your baby eat cake? But that was before I went through sleepless nights, endless worries that all new parents have, and unsolicited advice from folks on how things were done in their day. That first year is so many things and it's all worth celebrating. Just watching your own child eat a frosted cake is fun in and of itself. I had bad eaters so the act of even seeing them eat anything was a delight. What I'm saying is, I promise, the cake smash portraits are worth it, because they represent so much of what you've succeeded at in the past year. All that growth for everyone deserves a little cake.
