Turning one is a monumental milestone for any baby, and what better way to celebrate than with a fun, beautiful cake smash photoshoot? Cake smashes are a celebratory experience in and of themselves. You as parents especially deserve this moment. Parenting in the first year of a baby’s life has it’s challenges! What better to cap the sweetness of getting here than with some frosting. I’ve been photographing baby girl E here since she was in her mama’s tummy. I captured this family’s maternity, her newborn portraits and was thrilled to cap an amazing year and a half off as her cake smash photographer.
Her mama also trusted me with advice on styling and went with pieces from my client closet. If you’ve read my blog recently you’ll know how important this is to a session. I sent her options and we talked about what color tones go with E’s coloring as well as mama’s red hair. This way mom arrived at the studio in whatever she felt comfortable in and got into her dress. A bonus here is E couldn’t mess up her outfit on the way to the shoot. Drooly babies are common at 1 year old, and a bib doesn’t always catch it all!
Speaking of bibs, none needed when we got to the cake smash part. Luckily E loved cake and ate it with flair. Sometimes these babies don’t like the texture or taste of frosting so we have strategies to deal with that. Not needed with today’s great eater! We cleaned little miss up with a fun bubble bath to conclude the session. It was sweet, in so many ways. The sweetest part? This family left their experience with an heirloom keepsake album to serve as a memory that they can pass down to their daughter. I love that.
