Baby girl R. came to my studio in an unusual way, and a way that delights me. Her grandma called wanting to capture this special time for their whole family. I love it when grandparents want to be in the photos. I have so few pictures of myself as a kid with my grandparents and I wish I had more. So many times if a grandparent comes, it is to help with the older sibling only, and they often decline to be in any pictures. R.’s grandma (or nana, gigi – I’m not sure what R is calling her) not only was up for being in photos, she was enthusiastic about it! At our ordering appointment as she was picking out her favorites it was like chatting with an old friend.
Things I notice now that I have a baby with a chin dimple – look at her adorable little chin dimple. It is so cute – I love little features like this. Things unique to them, or their newborn-ness are details I strive to capture for parents. So often I have folks come in and their baby’s umbilical stump hasn’t fallen off, for example. I love that, since it’s something that is unique to this shortest period of their lives, as a newborn.
I usually book newborn sessions while the parents are still expecting, so don’t delay in reaching out – contact me ASAP! Babies like little R. come into the studio between 9 and 16 days old, to catch them when they are the sleepiest while still curled up from being in the womb. At this age they love those classic newborn poses and they are easiest to get then. While a session like this is still possible after 16 days, babies’ wake periods are longer, which means your session is too so save yourself some time! It’s worth it, I promise.
