For C.’s first birthday portraits, his mom was all about the simple, pure white backdrop. I love that look – it ensures the baby is the focal point of the session, and any cake colors or additional props pop nicely in the photo. Little C. was pretty chill for a one year old, I know that my own little guy was running like a wild man all through his own cake smash! It’s definitely easier, either way, to have someone else take these photos. Someone who is not a parent generally can get the kiddos to listen a little better (or that’s my experience!). C. loved his smash cake, and ate it like a champ.
We had to be nimble and flexible in order to get big brother in the photo. Some siblings just aren’t interested in portraits – I’ve had to employ snacks, treats, even cartoons just to get some to hold their baby brother or sister. It’s totally normal, so you go with the flow and work realllllly quick.
I think mama was happy with the portraits – just look at that sweet face!
