Today’s family comes to me as a former newborn client. Little T. was a dream baby, sleepy and gorgeous and I’ll tell you – not much has changed! He’s still a dream baby, only now with smiles galore on top of that. His mama signed up for my motherhood mini sessions back in April. Her booking made me wonder if I should add fatherhood sessions as well. Her true wish for the session was plenty of photos of her partner with his boys, which of course I obliged! I so often assume that it is mom behind the camera but sometimes there aren’t a ton with dad in photos. Of course, there never are enough photos of parents with their kids. Especially when kids are this little.
Big brother was totally normal in that he really wasn’t sure what to make of me. Little kiddos often don’t love a stranger with a big dark piece of equipment (my camera, natch) pointed in their direction. They are understandably weirded out. So I pull out my best tricks, lean on the parents a little to tell me what gets them laughing and go from there. It’s a physically demanding job, and I honestly love that about it.
I hosted my mini sessions at my favorite Westchester park at sunset. It is next to the Bronx River, and the sun sets right behind you in this park. It’s so beautiful, I can’t stop suggesting it as a location for outdoor photo sessions!
