A good percentage of my clients are first time parents, and sometimes I’ll get a second kiddo in studio or at their home. Every now and then I get the rare client that brings in a third baby! Today’s baby was that rarer of clients, the third kiddo. I think it’s just second and third kid syndrome, where parents have successively fewer photos of each kid. I say, bring them all in (or have me over)! I love hanging photos demonstrating the same pose or setup with different babies to really highlight how unique they are from each other, but also maintain visual continuity on your wall.
Baby B. was a lifestyle session at his home with his big sister and big brother. The latter of these siblings, being nearly 7 and therefore having reached the age of reason, was incredibly helpful and patient. Middle sister was really well behaved, just had a smaller attention span due to the excitement that is being 4. She was fun and energetic, which is a makes for great photos. I feel strongly that it is ok for your kids to be themselves during a session – the best photos come from unexpected moments!
Speaking of unexpected moments, big brother asked to read to his brother, so he grabbed a book and I captured a really really special moment with him doing so. Of course, I was glad to have a job to do since he chose “Love You Forever”, which was sweet in and of itself, but that book always makes me cry. Since it is about a mother and son, for me it has taken on an even more poignant meaning as I raise my own boys.
Little B. was by far one of the smiley-est newborns I’ve had! Particularly when his mama held him, boy did he smile a bunch. This was such a delightful family and I was so honored to be welcomed into their home.
