Late last December my dear friend Megan asked if I would capture her growing family as well as their annual visit to the local Christmas tree lot. What made this session even more special to me is Megan is due with her baby a week after I’m due! Now, I’ve always want to do an outdoor session in the snow, whether maternity or family and I will say – be careful what you wish for! The date of the session brought with it a snowstorm, and not the light, dusty kind. This was a wet, heavy, intense burst of snow. I was excited still, because no matter what it was gorgeous, and so is this family. The mom even asked if we should cancel – I didn’t want to miss out on beautiful snow falling around them, snow blanketing the evergreen trees around them and the ground. Because what is more depressing than muddy winter outdoor shots with no winter flavor? That said, we had to work quickly to beat the “melted snowman” look on the family members, not to mention engage a toddler not super into the cold and snow (can you blame her?). Dad came in with some awesome entertainment for his daughter, by way of (what else?) throwing snow. It made for fun shots and distracted her enough to snag some gorgeous, wintery photos before everyone got kind of soaked and cranky. I hope you enjoy – and I hope the family treated themselves to some hot cocoa when they were done with the session!
